Ariana Grande is officially back with a new era.

The pop superstar released her eighth studio album, petal, on July 31, 2026. The 12-track project follows her 2024 album, eternal sunshine, and marks Grande’s first full-length release since completing her run as Glinda in the Wicked films.

Grande introduced the album with the single “hate that i made you love me,” which became her tenth No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100. The track offered an early preview of the album’s softer and more understated sound.

A More Restrained Side of Ariana Grande

On petal, Grande moves away from some of the huge vocal moments associated with her earlier music. Instead, the album leans into atmospheric pop, R&B production, layered harmonies and more restrained vocal performances.

Longtime collaborators Max Martin and ILYA contributed to the project, helping Grande build a sound that feels intimate without abandoning the polished pop production that has defined much of her career.

The album explores relationships, fame, public criticism, emotional attachments and the process of moving beyond things that no longer serve you. Grande previously explained that the title represents something alive growing through the cracks of something cold, hard and challenging.

Ariana Grande Releases the “petal” Music Video

Alongside the album, Grande released a music video for the title track.

The graphic and highly symbolic video follows Grande through a series of Hollywood auditions where different versions of her are criticized and rejected. As the video progresses, it becomes a darker commentary on fame, impossible public expectations and the pressure placed on women in entertainment.

The video includes a graphic content warning and eventually shows Grande’s character taking violent revenge against the men judging her. The exaggerated imagery positions the video as one of the boldest visuals of her career.
